The General cargo ship HASSINA ran aground on a beach in Tamatave, northeast Madagascar, on 26 April.
It was announced that the ship, which was stated to have been abandoned for about a year, was at anchor when the accident occurred and had no crew.
Efforts to refloat the ship as of 29 April failed. It was understood that the ship, which was last under the flag of Kiribati and whose construction date is unknown, was operating between Tamatave and Nosy Be island before being abandoned.
