Brazil is privatizing Santos, which is shown as one of the largest ports in the world. The privatization of Santos, the largest port complex in Latin America, is planned for next year.
Brazil has simplified port terminal investment rules and reduced bureaucracy as it aims to invest more along the coastline.
A decree signed by President Jair Bolsonaro redefined the rules to speed up lease agreements for port areas, eliminate the need for public calls, and provide easier access to public areas for temporary economic use.
“This is another step in reducing bureaucracy for infrastructure investments in Brazil and will facilitate investment in port terminals, provide greater efficiency and make the industry more dynamic,” said Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, Brazilian Infrastructure Minister.
Last week, Brazil opened a tender for 5 ports, 4 in Itaqui and 1 in Pelotas.
