China’s oil imports fall for the first time in 8 years

China’s crude oil imports decreased by 3 percent in the first half of the year compared to the previous year. This was the first drop since 2013.

According to the data released by the General Administration of Customs, China, the world’s largest oil importer, experienced a decline in the first half of the last eight years.

China’s crude oil imports decreased by 3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year to 260.66 million tons in the January-June 2021 period due to the import quota, refinery maintenance and increasing global prices.

Thus, for the first time since 2013, crude oil imports fell in the first half.

According to the data released by the General Administration of Customs, crude oil imports totaled 40.14 million tons in June.
