Tokyobased Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has signed time charter agreements for four newbuild LNG carriers with a unit of Russian natural gas produce Novatek.
The vessels will be constructed at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. in South Korea and are slated for delivery in 2024.
MOL said the 174,000 cubic meter capacity ships will be equipped with “cuttingedge” MAN Energy Solutions engines that improve fuel efficiency. The ships will also adopt a new design that generates less boiloff gas from cargo tanks through the use of a reliquefaction unit on board, as well as a shaft generator system that uses the rotating propeller shaft for power generation. “These vessels are considerably more environmentally friendly than current LNG carriers,” the company said.
