Oil imports rose 21 percent in April


Turkey’s total oil imports increased by 21 percent in April 2021 compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 3 million 571 thousand 680 tons.

According to the “Petroleum Market Sector Report” of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) for April 2021, crude oil purchases, which constitute the largest item in Turkey’s total oil imports, grew by 11 percent and reached 2 million 612 thousand tons.

In the said period, diesel imports increased by 70.2 percent to 787 thousand 496 tons. Aviation and marine fuels, fuel-oil types and other products constituted the remainder of the imports.

Thus, Turkey’s total oil imports amounted to 3 million 571 thousand 680 tons in April with an increase of 21 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In this period, the largest import of crude oil and petroleum products was from Iraq with 1 million 50 thousand tons, followed by Russia with 873 thousand 591 tons and Kazakhstan with 305 thousand 409 tons.

Due to the measures taken against the coronavirus in April last year, economic activity slowed down and the consumption and sales of petroleum products decreased. This situation caused oil imports and consumption to increase significantly in April compared to the same month of the previous year.

Gasoline sales increased by 64 percent to 187 thousand 366 tons in April compared to the same month of the previous year, and diesel sales increased by 40.8 percent to 2 million 159 thousand 414 tons. Total petroleum products sales, on the other hand, increased by 42 percent to 2 million 447 thousand 437 tons.

PETROLEUM PRODUCTS EXPORTS INCREASED 2,4 PERCENT

Aviation fuel exports decreased by 11.8 percent in the same period and fell to 174 thousand 18 tons. Due to the restrictions applied to prevent the spread of the epidemic, the aviation industry came to a standstill, while the export and consumption of aviation fuels also decreased. In recent months, a recovery has started in aviation fuel exports.

In the said period, the export of marine fuels increased by 126.5 percent and was recorded as 114 thousand 216 tons. While exports of diesel types decreased by 23.5 percent to 275 thousand 860 tons, exports of gasoline types increased by 37.4 percent to 116 thousand 785 tons. Thus, total exports with other products in the oil market increased by 2.4 percent and were calculated as 887 thousand 639 tons.

11.9 PERCENT GROWTH IN PRODUCTION OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS

The production of diesel types increased by 13.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and became 1 million 442 thousand 986 tons, the production of gasoline types increased by 35.5 percent to 370 thousand 998 tons, the production of aviation fuels increased by 78.6 percent to 280 thousand 759 tons. .

Marine fuels production was calculated as 54 thousand 600 tons with an increase of 9.2 percent.

Total refinery petroleum products production with other fuel types increased by 11.9 percent to 2 million 895 thousand 711 tons.
