Total and Qatar Petroleum will establish a new platform to increase production at Al-Shaheen, Qatar’s largest offshore oil field.
The French oil company and Qatari state-owned oil company Qatar Petroleum is preparing to increase oil production in Al-Shaheen, Qatar’s largest oil field.
North Oil, the joint venture of the two companies last year, placed an order worth $630 million from South Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) for the construction of a new fixed platform at the site, which has been in operation since 1994. The plant is scheduled to be delivered by 2024.
Total and Qatar Petroleum have been working together in the field since 2017. The Al-Shaheen field, located 80 kilometers north of Ras Laffan, has 30 platforms and 300 wells.
The production of 100 million barrels per year from the field accounts for 45% of Qatar’s oil production.
