The amount of containers and cargo handled at the ports increased

The amount of containers handled at the ports increased by 12.2 percent in the first half of the year compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 6 million 164 thousand 384 TEUs, and the amount of cargo increased by 5.1 percent to 255 million 901 thousand 853 tons.

The amount of containers handled at Turkish ports in June increased by 26.8 percent and the amount of cargo increased by 13.6% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure General Directorate of Maritime Affairs published container and cargo statistics for June 2021.

Accordingly, the amount of containers handled at the ports in June increased by 26.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 1 million 64 thousand 445 TEU.

In the January-June period, the amount of containers handled at the ports reached 6 million 164 thousand 384 TEU with an increase of 12.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The amount of foreign traded containers handled at the ports increased by 21.6 percent in June compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 803,502 TEUs. Container shipments for export purposes increased by 22.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 429 thousand 584 TEUs, while container unloading for import purposes increased by 20.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 373 thousand 918 TEUs.

MAXIMUM CONTAINER HANDLING IS ON SHIPMENTS FROM GREECE

Greece was the country with the most container handling with 136,875 TEU last month. Shipments made with Egypt with 102 thousand 597 TEU and with Israel with 92 thousand 856 TEU respectively followed Greece.

Containers destined for Greece with 76 thousand 386 TEUs accounted for the highest number of export-purpose container shipments made by sea at the ports in the month in question. 97 percent (74,755 TEU) of these cargoes were transported by foreign flagged ships. Container shipments followed Greece with 42,288 TEU to Spain and 40,510 TEU to Egypt, respectively.

Containers from Israel accounted for the highest number of import containers unloaded by sea at ports in June, with 53,837 TEUs. 92.4 percent (49,750 TEU) of these cargoes were transported by foreign flagged ships. Container shipments from Greece with 51 thousand 6 TEUs and from Egypt with 46 thousand 321 TEUs followed Israel.

8.9 percent of the 803,502 TEU containers handled at the ports last month were transported by Turkish flagged vessels.

AMOUNT OF LOADS HANDLED AT PORTS

The amount of cargo handled at the ports increased by 13.6 percent in June compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 43 million 495 thousand 384 tons.

In the January-June period, the amount of cargo handled at the ports increased by 5.1 percent in the same period and was recorded as 255 million 901 thousand 853 tons.

In June, the amount of loading for export at the ports increased by 22.9 percent compared to the previous year and reached 13 million 458 thousand 210 tons, while the amount of unloading for import purposes increased by 5.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 18 million 129 thousand 456 tons.

In the January-June period, the total amount of cargo handled in maritime transport for foreign trade purposes was determined as 188 million 205 thousand 409 tons with an increase of 4.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

THE MOST INCREASE WAS IN CRUDE OIL

In June, 7 million 446 thousand 913 tons of crude oil cargo was handled at the ports. With an increase of 786 thousand 157 tons, crude oil was recorded as the type of cargo with the highest increase in handling amounts (11.8%) compared to the previous month.

Clinker, on the other hand, became the type of cargo whose handling amount decreased the most with a decrease of 412 thousand 125 tons compared to the previous month.

RUSSIA RANKS FIRST IN IMPORT AND ITALY IN EXPORT

In the foreign trade carried out by sea in June, the highest amount of cargo handling was seen in the transports with Russia with 4 million 534 thousand 989 tons. Russia was followed by America with 2 million 15 thousand 895 tons and Italy with 1 million 797 thousand 89 tons, respectively.

In the said month, the highest amount of cargo handling in exports by sea was realized in the transports to Italy with 1 million 194 thousand 289 tons. This was followed by shipments to America with 1 million 190 thousand 967 tons and to Spain with 1 million 107 thousand 114 tons.

In imports, the highest amount of cargo handling was in the shipments from Russia with 4 million 284 thousand 202 tons. Russia was followed by shipments from Brazil with 1 million 213 thousand 613 tons and from Colombia with 1 million 194 thousand 266 tons.

7.6 percent of 31 million 587 thousand 666 tons of foreign trade cargo handled at ports in June was transported by Turkish flagged ships.
