This year, it is aimed to bring 80 thousand carettas to the sea.

Due to the spawning period of the caretta carettas, the watch of environmentalists continues in the nesting areas. DEKAFOK President Seher Akyol is keeping watch in the area where the caretta caretta nests are located under the scorching sun, which reaches 40 degrees, so that the nests are not damaged.

Sea Turtles Mediterranean Seals Sand Lilies Protection and Survival Association (DEKAFOK) President Seher Akyol has been on guard duty for two months to prevent any damage to the nests and to avoid littering in the Boğaz-Breakfast location of Manavgat district, where the caretta caretta nests are concentrated.

Akyol, who was patrolling among the nests in the scorching heat of 40 degrees and above the seasonal norms, said that they will continue to watch and clean the environment with the volunteers, even at 50 degrees, if necessary, so that the nests are not damaged.

THEY GO OVER THE NEST

Akyol stated that a person from the water sports center called him the night before and said that a car was passing over a nest. “We couldn’t get the license plate of the vehicle due to the darkness. Still, we filed a complaint with the gendarmerie. We call on our citizens to be sensitive,” he said.

THIS YEAR TARGET 80 THOUSAND KIDS CARETTA

DEKAFOK President Seher Akyol, who stated that about 62 thousand baby carettas met with the sea on the 65-kilometer-long Manavgat coast, said, “This year, thanks to our cooperation with our District Governor, Mayor and hotels, more carettas laid eggs on our beaches. This year, we aim to bring around 80 thousand babies to the sea. As of July 10, the offspring will hatch and reach the sea,” he said.
